History

In the Fall of 2004, Deputy Kelley Hayworth of the Marion Country Sheriff’s Department had a goal of helping the homeless on the streets of Indianapolis. HOOP was created to help him reach that goal.

A Board of Directors was established and HOOP became incorporated on May 5, 2005.

The IRS designated HOOP a 501 ( c ) 3 organization on July 14, 2005.

HOOP currently has 7 Night Leaders, who lead approximately 12 outings per month. 

Local statistics on homelessness

776 shelter beds available in Indianapolis and on any given night approximately 2100 people are homeless.
